OP, get measured for clubs. then look for a set uf used ones that are at least close o the correct size. Play for a while, get some lessons, play for a while, then and only then look at a new set of clubs. I am still in the play with the used clubs (6 years) mode.

I bought my 1st set at Sarasota. They made sure the length, grips and shaft were correct for me. The clubs were fine and then I upgraded. People I know who bought cheap used clubs did not stick to playing golf. Do it correct from the beginning and you will be happy.

Garage sales often have decent used clubs that would be affordable and adequate for a beginner.

Try out demo clubs at Sarasota. They have club fittings. eBay, second swing or callaway have used club stores online

Everyone I know who bought the cheap used clubs that did not fit them quit golf pretty quickly. Spend some money for clubs that fit you and you will have a better time.

Look at facebook marketplace.
If you’re older, get clubs that have senior shafts (it makes a difference). You should be able to get a set for $100 with a bag. |

Go anywhere other than Sarasota. Oh they’ll sell you the clubs, but if you go back and ask for another club to match the set, they will just tell you it can’t be done. Walmart has better service

Along with any clubs you buy make sure you take LESSONS. I am not a teaching pro and suffer with all the problems you get from learning from friends and trying to teach myself. Things that show up even after I've learned the correct way to swing and make contact. You'll enjoy golf a lot more if you. start out correctly. Good luck.

Don’t listen to those saying you shouldn’t get cheap clubs. My first set of clubs was a Spalding set that were cheap. I was 13 . I didn’t get a good set until I was in my 30’s and they still weren’t measured to me. I am still using that set today although I changed some out to hybrids. Start with a cheaper set and use until you are sure you like the game. Make sure you like the weight of the set you buy as well as the length and you will be fine. Check out Walmart, Dicks, Sports Authority or some other sporting goods store. They have them on display and just go from one to another till you find one that feels good. You will know when you find it. As you play , you will decide whether you want a better set or whether the set you have will last you the rest of your life. Enjoy - it’s only a game
