From Webster....A cowboy: a man, typically one on horseback, who herds and tends cattle, especially in the western US.
A patriot: a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors. Neither of those names represents a race of a person. Using a slang term (yes Indian is a slang term) to name a sports team, and then use a stupid image to display that slang term time has come and gone. Would you be good with the Florida "Whities"or New Jersey Jews or better yet Connecticut Hymies???? |

Well here is a little more of a scientific sampling. From a Native American news site and the Washington Post: Two major studies show that while activists are busy suing teams, many Indians take no offense. A survey of Indians conducted in 2002 for Sports Illustrated found that 81 percent don't think high school or college teams should drop Indian nicknames. Asked about the Redskins, 75 percent said the name doesn't offend them. Last year, the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Election Survey found that 90 percent of Indians did not consider "Redskins" offensive." Column: Indians don't care about Indian mascots Nine in 10 Native Americans say they are not offended by the Washington Redskins name, according to a new Washington Post poll that shows how few ordinary Indians have been persuaded by a national movement to change the football team’s moniker. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local...f9a_story.html But as the virtual signaling is now at warp speed, I am sure it has its desired effect into instilling the sense of victimhood in younger Native Americans. It is a shame because the one ethnicity that most people brag about who can is Native American. I am 3%. I wish it was much more. |

New name sux. Could have been Lakers or Brewers (Milwaukee beat them) after old Carling Black Label plant by old stadium. We can’t even honor American Indians any longer. Talk about discrimination!!

Cleveland Indians to Guardians
I lived in the Akron Cleveland area for about 50 years, and not once did I ever hear any reference to "Guardians", apparently some statues on the Hope Memorial Bridge.
They will always be "The Tribe" to me! |

As a lifelong Mets fan I have found the term “yankees” very offensive.
