Interesting article. I grew up when Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Frank Robinson, Ernie Banks (never made the series), Bob Gibson, etc., were dominant players. According to the article, baseball is too expensive now. Although you always read about kids from the Caribbean - who are in extreme poverty - making it to the major leagues.

Certainly an interesting statistic and sad state of affairs.

Unfortunately, today's politically correct environments, prohibits legitimate speculation as to why this is the case. The politically correct will sweep it under the rug and blame it on the sport being "too expensive" or "too exclusive" ... instead of seeing it for what it is.

A few are usually from Minnesota. I doubt any are from the "Sun Belt".

These days quite a few US born hockey players. Even my SIL plays in an amateur league

According to this, there are 206 NHL players born in the USA.

Practically every top American swimmer is white.
Definitely more black NFL players.

I think that for whatever reason most black children grow up playing football and basketball. They like what they like and nothing wrong with it.

Tiger Woods sure made a big impact on how golf is seen through his many achievements in that sport.

It does have something to do with the opportunities that are available. I have heard that hockey is one of the most expensive as far as all the equipment that is required.

For whatever reason, Latins have replaced black players in major league baseball. Blacks seem to prefer basketball and football.

Baseball requires less expensive stuff than football so not sure that applies totally.
