Why is this a negative in our country of the free?
Most of your heritages are from other countries.

No Black players expected in World Series, a 1st since 1950
Both current NFL quarterbacks of color out of Texas were outstanding multi-sport athletes in high school and college and had opportunity to play football or baseball. Both decided to "follow the money". And remember when MJ retired from BB and tried baseball. He was competitive but not at the major league level.

I have heard a couple reasons which seen to have a grain of truth. 1) it takes a lot of infrastructure to play baseball. Mainly land for the field. Schools would often provide a field but not so much these days. 2) basketball has more immediate gratification and is easier to get a game going. You can ever play solo if no one is around to join you

So, the article said that MLB has 38% people of color. This includes people on the Astros and Phillies teams, some of whom self-identify as black, even though they weren’t born in the US. Should we have a quota rule that in MLB, 13.6% of each team should be African-American? I don’t think so. But if we did, we should have quota rules limiting them to 13.6% on football and basketball teams. That isn’t going to happen, of course. I happen to like it when guys come to the big leagues from the Caribbean or Japan and play terrific baseball. What a dream come true for them. As for that article, I don’t care. Interesting, though.

Seemed like the right thing to do at the time. No big deal at all

Actually no infrastructure needed to play baseball.

As a kid living in Brooklyn we painted bases on the street, choose up sides and off we went only stopping when cars were going by. Parents as umpries or referees not needed or wanted for that matter.

Will say we used either our hands for punchball or a stick as a bat for stickball.
