I think that this time around he's there more to enjoy the Olympics than worry about gold. Who could deny him that. He's worked hard for a long, long time. The Olympics is more than just winning for the athletes.

Who knows? This loss may wake him up and get him to practice more -- that's what he did after losing this summer.

But calling him a loser is going too far. Even if he doesn't place in even one event this go-round, he has more than proven he is anything but a loser. The reality is he may really not be in the same class as last Olympics -- he is older, his opponents are younger and have learned a lot (especially from him).

kinda like those of us here in TV,,, we are NOT the man we used to be!
I sure dont want my grandkids to emulate mr pHELPS,, Olympian or not.
just another spoiled Professional athlete,, and they make fun of someone sincere like Tim Tebow!
YES mr phelps makes his living paddling around in the pool...kinda neat to see a Knucklehead get his faced rubbed in it!

He is a very bright man who makes an excellent living "paddling in a pool." Why are you so angry about it? He is a young man who will make mistakes in his life, just like we all have.

Let's see, he was caught on camera smoking pot once upon a time. He publicly admitted it, called it a mistake and said it wouldn't happen again. Do you have any proof that he has smoked since that incident? Personally, I would much rather my daughter and grandson emulate a young man who takes responsibility for his actions, admits he made a mistake and, so far as I know, does his best to not make that mistake again. Sorry, I refuse to condemn anyone for making a mistake so long as they don't repeat that mistake.

In the meantime, why all the anger and vitriol? Are you really so perfect that you can cast those stones so quickly and so hard? (And, yes, I agree that Tim Tebow is a young man to be admired. So was Steve Young but not Joe Montana.)

Michael Phelps came in fourth. I don't see him as a loser.

He has been magnificent for a long time.
