US Open at The Country Club
Very much enjoying watching the mens golf US Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Ma. It’s an amazing course with very deep history just outside of downtown Boston. The place is very special to me, it’s a short walk from my brother and sister-in-law’s home and I have been very lucky to have the opportunity to play a couple rounds there. My favorite memory at The Country Club is when I was fortunate enough to win two tickets in a lottery to the 1999 Ryder Cup on Sunday when the USA had the greatest ever comeback in Ryder Cup history. In a total no-brainer decision, I used the extra ticket to bring my dad to the event, which was undoubtedly the most electric and patriotic sporting event I will ever have the opportunity to attend. So happy to have been able to share it with the old man. My gut says Will Zalatoris is going to break through for his first major victory tomorrow.

Hope you're right, but Mathew Fitzpatrick also has history at Brookline with amateur win.

Keegan Bradley, a local favorite in Mass. Area. Would also be a good choice.

Shooting birdies (20, 25 under) is great TV entertainment.
Fun to see the big boys being challenged by a course.

1988 U. S. Open; Curtis Strange playoff win. - My lady friend at the time worked for one of the corporate sponsors, a national news magazine. They had quite a few tickets that came with the sponsorship. I think I gave away about a dozen or so tickets. Still have three around somewhere, including one for the playoff.

If a 10-15 handicap golfer played this course with a forecaddie and with 1/2 of the rough it would be a 5+ hour round and a dozen name your brand golf balls.

A lot of forecaddies(fans) out there. Bet they found some balls by stepping on them.

It rained over night/this morning and it's 55 degrees at 10:30 AM. Probably won't get above 64 degrees today. Wind seems lighter though.

I've played the Country Club 10-15 times. I've played all of the holes at different times. I played the old US Open/Ryder Cup layout and I think that the current routing is the best routing they've ever had. I love that they're including #12 (#13) in this year's open. It's too bad that they have to skip the original #9. It's a great hole that's currently being used as the driving range.
I attended the US Amateur in 1982 and saw my friend Jim Hallet lose to David Tolley in the semi finals when Tolley made a 45 foot breaking putt on the 18th green. I was also at the 1988 US Open and the Ryder Cup in 1999. I love watching the open at a course that I'm so familiar with. I do have to say that they have added several teeing grounds where I didn't think they would have the room. That course never played at that length. But the players are hitting from the same spots that I used to hit from but are using much shorter clubs. It's sad to see #13 (the composite hole) being played so easily by these players. I really wish that the USGA and PGA Tour would come with a separate ball to be used in competition. That hole gave players fits in the past and now it's just another driver-sand wedge hole.

It's a shame that it rained last night. It will make the greens softer and slower. Not what I want to see for the final round of a US Open.

I can't pick. There are probably ten guys that could win this thing now. Maybe twenty.

I was thinking the wet rough would be next to impossible to hack out of which would offset the softer greens, but it’s sunny and windy today so it should dry out by the time the leaders t off. Should be a great final round, lots of the best near the top of the leaderboard. The place will go crazy if Keegan Bradley finds a way to pull off a win.

Perhaps Mickelson can put it all together today. Wait. What?
