Memorial Donor Center Promotions

This is for Memorial Day 2016.

I will be skipping my usual mid-month platelet donation so that I can try to get my iron count level down on the 30th of May or thereabouts. Then I will have platelet donations every two weeks or so if the iron count is lower than it has been.

They do seem to get a lot of business when they give out the 10 e-mail gift cards.

I hope that all the voluntary promotion I have done of One Blood like this on TOTV as well as in my 224 613 Project (Google Taltarzac725) has helped bring more donors. Victms/survivors of crimes often need blood transfusions.

Shout out to my friends at One Blood,

I am going to have to miss my usual mid-month platelet donation so that I can lower my iron count my donating whole blood at the end of the month. Donating platelets this coming week would prevent me from donating whole blood for probably a month or so more.

One Blood is not the only blood donation place here in the Villages area. We also get Life South Blood Mobiles which I have gone to maybe seven times since moving from Palm Harbor, FL eleven years ago. LifeSouth Community Blood Centers - Donor Resources

Before you donate blood they will give you a small physical. Check your veins, blood pressure, iron content, cholesterol levels, and temperature.

I cannot give blood for another 10 days or so and my platelet donations have pushed up my iron content, so I need to donate whole blood again.

I survived another one, I hit the 10 gal mark today. I don't understand it, but my iron counts have been in the low 14's since they got the new monitor. Looks like I will get to donate platelets until I hit the 22 donation limit. There were only 4 platelet donations today. They need to really start promoting for platelet donors.

Not sure, I thought it was 22 times but I might be wrong. All I know is when I get an email cancelling all of my future appointments until a future date, I get a rest. I'll ask next time I am in for a donation.

Blanca told me something very interesting yesterday, when they desperately need platelets, they take whole blood from the mobiles and extract the platelets from it. It take 24 pints of whole blood to equal ONE double platelet donation. I didn't realize platelets were that valuable.

Blanca did mention that to me. That is why they try to get three bags from me of platelets. My iron was too high last time for three; so they took two.

I will be giving blood in ten days or so and will try to get back to platelets if I can get my iron count down.

Since they stopped taking triples from me, my iron counts have been stable. I have asked them about this and they don't know if there is a connection, but I am now on a 2 unit list.
