It is no secret to those of us who live in and around The Villages that support for individuals with mental illnesses is scarce. Bipolar disorder is a prevalent disease that affects almost 3% of the U.S. population, equaling almost 6 million people. It is characterized by uncontrolled manic episodes of high energy and ambition, followed by moderate to severe crashes into depressive and sometimes suicidal moods.

I myself have bipolar disorder. I know better than most that you can not beat it alone. That is why I am starting the first (and currently only) Bipolar Support Group right here in The Villages. I have navigated the systems and have achieved stability, finding myself in a position to help others like me.
