Default Moloka'i, Really good

Just read Moloka'i by Alan Brennert A really good book, gives you a view into the world of a leper colony in Hawaii and what they went thru.

I didn't read this one but did enjoy Honolulu, also by Brennert. Did you read that one?

I just finished this book and I really enjoyed it too. I Googled it and found out a lot of interesting historical items on the colony....fascinating!

I read this book several years ago while in Hawaii! It was very informative. I only wished would have had time to to go Molokai while in the area! Really sad the way we treated people who were sick!

There are still Hansens victims living at the colony on Molokai. There are tours that take you down the cliffs on mules to visit the colony.

That happened not too long ago when the HIV/AIDS epidemic broke out. I think that commonly happens when we don't understand something. Unfortunately for all of us.

Isn't there still a hospital in Louisiana for victims of Hansens? I wonder if there is a story there? Something for budding authors to look into...

Had the opportunity a year or so ago to attend the Vatican Ceremony with the Pope in which Father Damien from the Colony was granted Sainthood.

Very moving ceremony and well attended by staff and patients from Molokai.
