Default Another vote for Asimov

Most anything by Isaac Asimov. Start with the Foundation Series and keep going. I’ve read about 25 of his books.

I found that the early stuff from others was mostly crap. Even the compendiums.

Another vote here for Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. A bit dated but still excellent and thought-provoking.

I, Robot by Isaac Asimov

If you can find a copy: "Make Room, Make Room!" by Harry Harrison. It's old, written in the 1960's about a future in 1999 when the world is becoming overpopulated. It was the basis of the cult-classic movie Soylent Green.

1984 by Orwell
Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury are both must-read classics, if you didn't already read them in 8th grade literature or sociology class (still good reads even decades later).

Everything by Octavia Butler. Warning - it can be disturbing, she pokes and prods at our morality and perception of humanity, feminism, masculinity, personhood in general. People who fear "other" will find it disconcerting. Or they might find it eye-opening.

Default Rendezvous with Rama

My go-to is Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke. It wasn't originally intended to be a trilogy, but he eventually wrote two follow-on books. I'm just dying to see Rama made into a movie, hope it happens in my lifetime.

Allow me to be bold enough to suggest my own novel Not Like Us, which was awarded the Gold award for Best Science Fiction in 2023 by the Florida Writers Association.
Amazon.com

I also have a collection of short stories placed on the same future world, in Tales of Verdant:

Hope you enjoy them. Many others have.

Tales of Verdant is must-read, gang!! I just finished it last week. Good work, Doc!

I also have Not Like Us downloaded into my kindle and ready to go. I will definitely be reading it soon. I'm just looking for a good filler between Doc-books.

One second after. It’s about an EMP bomb that shut down the country. This is a small tower everyone’s fleeing to & anarchy starts. It’s fiction, but it could be true which makes it good.

Loved the "Old Man's War" series, wasn't crazy about the final book but still a worthwhile read and wanted to close out the series.

Some others:

The "Rendezvous With Rama" series
Anything by Frederik Pohl, especially the Gateway and Heechee series
John Ringo's "Live Free Or Die" series

I'm sure there's more but that's all I can think of at the moment.
