Boyhood - Rotten Tomatoes
It looks like this comes out on DVD On January 6, 2015 and had a box office release the Summer of 2014. Anyone see it? It could be the front-runner for the Oscars. |

Yes! Best movie I have ever seen. It is likely to win Best Picture this year. Hopefully after the Academy Award nominations are released it will get a better showing in theaters here.

I saw it.
I find this interesting. "The yearly shoots typically ran between three to four days, after which Linklater and editor Sandra Adair would go to work. "Every year we’d spend a few weeks editing that episode, and then as we went on we would attach it to the episode from before," he said. It gave him the rare chance to reconsider creative decisions years after the fact. "In the end, it’s pretty unique to have ten years to think about a shot," he said, noting that transitions had been a particular area of focus. While the original plan had been for overt shifts as the film leapt from one year to the next, they ended up on the cutting room floor, resulting in one seamless ride throughout Mason’s life." click here for more I thought it was fascinating to watch everyone age. But overall I didn't care for it as most others did. The story was not all that interesting to me. Maybe it seemed a little too life-like. In other words, it's a little boring. If what's above is true, acting 3 or 4 days a year does not seem like a big commitment, just a clever idea. |

Boring. Walked out in the middle or so. IMHO

I would not call it boring. I thought the fact that it was filmed over 12 years with the same actors was a fairly unique project.
I was not all that impressed with the final product though. I suppose that the uniqueness of the method does not register in my mind as an Academy Award quality film unless the story and performances are outstanding. They were not. |

We watched it last night, rented it at Redbox. Best movie we had seen in a while. Reminded me so much of my childhood.

If you're expecting a grand, dramatic story with a satisfying resolution in the third act, you won't like this film. If you accept it's a series of short vignettes representing the not-necessarily dramatic moments that make up the life of a boy, you might quite enjoy it.
A lot of attention is given to the boy who played the main character. Not so much seems to be given (at least in what I've read) to the girl who played the sister. She was played by the daughter of the director and particularly in a few scenes was astonishingly good. When her father tried to give her some frank advice about contraceptives when she was about 13 or so, her painfully embarrassed and mortified reactions were as real as anything I've ever seen acted by any actor. I'm glad I saw the film and think it was an amazing project but it's not anything I'd ever need to see a second time. |

Thanks for that review. I watched it for 30 minutes or so and got a little bored. I guess I have to be in the mood for this type of movie. I will get it again some time to watch more of it. I often take movies I see on DVD in pieces especially if I am busy with other stuff. |

We watched this movie last night. It was very realistic, but very boring. Seemed about 10 hours long. I didn't feel any connection with the actors and kept waiting for it to end. Husband felt the same way, and was so bored he volunteered to do the dishes during the movie. That was a first! Glad we didn't pay to see it at the theatre.

I am not much of a movie goer in fact i wait for movies to come to TV. God knows I pay enough to get them.
anyway I believe the only reason it gained any attention was because it was shot over 12 years and people were curious about that aspect. |
