Most years I try and see the nominated best pictures. However, last year I was reminded recently when I saw a replay of the Warren Beatty snafu when he announced La La Land as best picture and it wasn't. It was a musical and I've seen it, and it was alright, Ryan Gossling is more talented than I thought, and I already liked him. A recent skit on SNL had Ryan playing a it straight at a neighborhood Christmas party and he took Santa Claus a bit too serious. It was one of the best skits ever on that show, see link below.
The actual winner was a film called Moonlight. I use to love the 80's show Moonlighting, but I never heard of this film. In the past year I've never heard anyone mention this film, or talk or rent, or see on premium TV. After looking it up on IMDB I can see why. "A chronicle of the childhood, adolescence and burgeoning adulthood of a young, African-American, gay man growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami." I like dramas and highbrow films, but this topic doesn't hold much appeal for me. The IMDB rating is 7.5, which I use 7.0 as the baseline on whether to see a film at the theater or wait. So much for last year's best film. Santa Baby - SNL - YouTube |

Hell or High Water was extremely well done in every area. And a very good story. I expect this one will be remembered for a long time. |
