Who picks the movies that we see in The Villages? I ask because with the Oscars coming up this Sunday night, a few of the big movies never made it here. Finding Alice is a perfect example, also Boyhood, Foxcatcher and Whiplash (that was shown here for a week and then dumped).
Each year we have always tried to see all the nominated movies before Oscar night (a National Holiday in our household). This is our first full year in TV and we are truly disappointed in the offerings. I can understand the big blockbusters and some of the comedy's with big names, but c'mon, St Vincent was here for almost 2 months while others were overlooked.

The movie distributors are the ones who send out the movies from what I've been told.

Still Alice opens Friday. Foxcatcher either next weekend or first week in March. Boyhood available on demand. Whiplash available on demand 2 days after Oscars. Last year I make it back to NYC to catch up, didn't this year. Very few art house movies are shown here there is probably little demand. Also there are some distributors that don't give the movies . For some time if I remember correctly they were not getting Hunger Games.

We occasionally go to Ocala to see movies if they are not being shown here. Still Alice is showing there now at the Regal.

We go occasionally to Leesburg at Lake Square Mall and it's closer than Ocala. The theatres are nice and some of the 12 screens (6 I think) have stadium seating.

Used to be we didn't get Lionsgate films here, but now we do.
What little I know about film distribution is that the movie house(s) sign a contract with the distributor and then have to take what the distributor sends them.
