This movie is disgusting and an insult. Why The Villages would bring in this movie and Dirty Grandpa makes you wonder. A group of us ladies thought 50 shades was suppose to be funny. It was advertised by Jane Seymour on talk shows as a spoof. It's a shame that this is the kind of entertainment (?) the younger generation is watching. We were thoroughly embarrassed at the content of this movie and it is NOT funny. Don't waste your money. We are far from a bunch of prudes and friends of mine went to Dirty Grandpa and said that was totally gross.

I'm not surprised. Most of the content from Hollywood is disgusting. And, if you saw and heard the content on many of the video games children are playing, that would shock you even more. And yet, parents allow it...

Rotten Tomatoes is a website that looks at a number of reviews and give a critic review between 0-100. They gave Dirty Grandpa an 8. It's rare to see a number that low.
They haven't evaluated 50 Shades of Black yet. I think they are a fairly reliable site to check before seeing a movie. I also think it's fair to walk out of a movie you don't like because it is obscene, not just bad acting or poorly written and ask to see a movie that you do like. |

Both of those movies have an R rating. It stands to reason that an R rating will have very strong sexual content, coarse adult words flowing freely, graphic violence, or bathroom humor as determied by the genre of the film.
It might be better to stick with the PG ratings if one does not like what is in the R rated movies. As for walking out during the movie and telling the management you did not like it is fine - but not to ask for a refund. |

Ah yes, if only the stars of that "complete" movie could be Ruth Gordon, Bea Arthur, and Gabby Hayes.

I really just don't understand how one will go to a movie without having an idea of what it is about. A look at the poster, IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes will tell you what is in the movie. 50 Shades of Black is a spoof movie by one of the Wayan brothers and follows their other spoofs (Scary Movie and the like). Dirty Grandpa is called Dirty Grandpa and rated R. These movies have an audience, don't cost a ton of money to make and make money.

The standards certainly have changed a great deal over the past decade. I would have a hard time talking about a lot of these movies with my various nieces and nephews. They probably love all of it or the older ones do. My two nieces saw Rock of Ages maybe 4 times while there were here and then later. Two or three times at the Old Mill Playhouse. I went to youtube and they have 2 trailers for 50 Shades. The official one is rated for all viewers. That's the one I guess you see in the movies.
The other trailer was rated R so you get to see what it will really be like. That could even be watered down. I never thought of looking for different rated trailers or using youtube before. I still think if you go to an R rated movie that starts to look like an x-rated movie it's fair to ask if you could switch movies. The most they could say is no. Tell them you'll buy the big bucket of popcorn and a big coke for $27.50 or whatever they now charge. Last edited by tomwed; 02-05-2016 at 12:12 PM. |

Yes, some R rated movies get what is known as a red band trailer. If that is the case there is one trailer cut that is no more than a PG13 that can basically be shown as a trailer in any movie not rated less than that. If it has already been rated by the MPAA the true rating will be given at the end of the trailer. A red band trailer can be shown before an R rated feature. It is called red bank as instead of the normal green screen before a trailer this one is red or has a red band around it. |

Like I said in original post, we are not a bunch of prudes and we have seen several R rated movies but this was beyond the pale. It should be rated X, IMO.

I agree...did not see this movie but I just don't get some of the things people find funny today. Rude and crude behavior is not funny funny....at least not to me.
