I really liked The Shootist which was his last movie and filmed not too far from Reno, Nevada where I lived from age 11 to 24 or so.

The Shootist - Rotten Tomatoes

True Grit was great, too.

All his films with Victor McLaglen . Specially The Quiet Man!
Utter nonsense, but I loved it!
Not forgetting his other side kick Gabby Hayes.

The Long Voyage Home and The Quiet Man are probably my two favorites. Then again, there's The Shootist.

My favorite still is McClintock. Was in a catholic elementary school and the nuns played that John Wayne movie for us. I still remember this little, tiny nun practically faint when John said “But I won’t. I won’t. The hell I won’t!” And surprisingly punch some guy out.

Don’t know who was knocked for more of a loop, the kids, the character that got punched or that little nun!

Never have a favorite. They were all great and if they do any remakes never be the same. Why? Not John Wayne

Loved the music too
