Default Favorite Doc Holliday portrayer in film?

Doc Holliday – Deadly Doctor of the American West – Legends of America

Happy Birthday this August 14, 2025 to Doc Holliday.

Val Kilmer's embodiment of Dr. Holliday comes quickly to mind in Tombstone .

I suspect Quaids Doc was the most realistic, but Kilmer was most entertaining. Isn’t that a daisy

I agree with #3. Quaid for the realism and Val for the win.

Victor Mature with Henry Fonda in My Darling Valentine. Also had Walter Brennan. Is a great movie.

They are " Actor's " pure and simple. They lucked out just like the non hero " John Wayne " who many believe is a real life " Hero " when infact avoided the Miliitary, from a High School Football " Injury " & yet didn't have a problem riding horses etc.etc.etc.

They are Actor's & Actresses nothing more. They 99% of them yes believe it or not eat, sleep, walk, run, shop, & most are " Experts " on just about everything known to mankind.

I have interacted somewhat with a number of actors and actresses a bit over the past 45 years or so. They are just people with all the flaws and wonderful characteristics people have. Some do exhibit malignant narcissism but not as many as one would think with all the attention some Hollywood stars get. And some movie stars are very well educated in other areas.

While I mostly agree with your post, I really don't see your point having anything to do with the topic. Also, John Wayne has always been one of my heroes and too bad if you don't think so.

I like John Wayne too . He just seems so American in so many ways . The Shootist was filmed in Carson City. The Shootist - Wikipedia. That was John Wayne's last movie.

Yes & Johnny Wayne the " Non Hero " had absolutely no problem whatsoever going to Dinner Honoring and sitting with the Released POW's from North Vietnam.
He John Wayne was a movie actor nothing more & yet for many was considered a " HERO ", my question " Why " ? He rode a Horse, acted in Hollywood, (Big Deal), and was a Drunk.
Enough of him.

You brought him up in this discussion. Apparently, you have a secret obsession with The Duke.

Seems so "American"? Not sure what that really means? Most folks I have known in my life seemed American to me. They came in all ages, colors, ethnic backgrounds, economic situations, religious beliefs, educational opportunities and lifestyles.

Agreed.

In many (most?) of John Wayne's movies he came across as somebody playing John Wayne playing a part in a movie. But The Shootist was was at odds with most of the characters he played. J.B. Books was different. He may have been rough, tough and nasty, but at the end he was as human as the rest of us, and John Wayne did a magnificent job, IMO, at portraying that.

A fitting end to a great career.
