Benedict Cumberbatch, I like his petulant, stormy, unpredictable character in the series. He plays the narcissist on coke very credibly. The only part that was less believable is in season 4 when Sherlock is willing to suffer for his friend. A true narcissist or bipolar would never ever do that. They stay selfish always.

In my humble opinion, Basil Rathbone was absolutely the best Sherlock Holmes ever! His magnificence was made even better by the performances of Nigel Bruce as his Dr. Watson. Together, they were an unbeatable pair!

A great actor. I've enjoyed him in many other movies as many other characters.

The modern take is also excellent, especially in how they stayed true to the canon, and Cumberbatch and Freeman are wonderful, but there is no comparison to Grenada's 1980s series and the legendary Jeremy Brett.

Actually, all of you are right! If Basil Rathburn hadn't done such a great job protraying an early Sherlock there might not have been a need for Jeremy Brett or Benedict Cumberback to follow. All three were magical to watch in the role, especially taking in the different time periods each were filmed in.
That being said I can't say I'm a fan of the new series "Sherlock & Daughter". What idiot thought it would be a good idea to give Sherlock a long lost daughter (who happens to be black so all the woke boxes can be checked)? Though David Thewlis (if left to himself) portrays a credible Sherlock, I don't think most fans of the character want to see him as a Daddy figure. |
