Default "FLIGHT" sold out?

Went to Spanish Springs tonight to the Rialto to see the new Denzel Washington movie Flight tonight.
We got there 20 minutes early beacause it just opened this past friday and expected alot of people would want to see it too. Got up to the ticket booth and was told "only first three rows available". We didn't go.

Why don't they show the newly released movies in two theaters? It would be great to have a newer movie shown at one north theater in SS and also at the Barnstorm at Brownwood? Iron Fist is playing at both. Is there a mileage radius that forbids showing a new release at two fairly close theaters?

I don't know how the contractual obligations with the movie distributors work, but I am guessing that when a movie first comes out, it is difficult to predict how popular it will be unless it's one of the "blockbusters" like Harry Potter or Batman. If they showed a movie in all the theaters, then it would be like we only had one movie theater instead of three. My wife and I have always enjoyed going to movies in "non-peak" time periods (i.e. 10am shows) and have never had any problems getting in, even in season.

It's not up to the theators what they show...it's up to the distribution people. We had a theator in the small town we moved here from and the owner/operator said he can't even ask for what movies he wants. He might have had "some" influence on the ratings he showed however (ie PG13 etc)

I saw Flight (from the second row) It is an incredibly great show. I agree that it needs a larger theatre or two theatres. People wait in line for an hour or more. Not only do we have line dancers...we have line waiters lately.

At many of the multiplexes back home the same movie would often be shown in two or more theaters if it were very popular They would usually offset the screening times so it would be so crowded. I don't know why it couldn't be shown in two or more of our theaters.

It seems to me that it would defeat the purpose of having three theaters only if all the movies they were showing were the same. Having one or two very popular movies playing at two or more theaters would still leave plenty of room for other movies.

There are 28 separate theaters between the three complexes. Right now there are 22 different movies counting 3D version of the same movies. That seems like plenty of choices to me.
