Default Greatest Athlete of All Time?

Went to Old Mill Playhouse to see the movie "Secretariat". It's not very often that we hear the theater audience applaud during and the end of a movie. Considering that Secretariat's opponents were NOT plow horses, but great race horses themselves, the margin of victory for the Triple Crown winner is nothing short of amazing. This movie is a great story about the greatest athlete who ever lived. There'll never be another "Big Red".

check out the margin of victory near the end of this YouTube video:

I agree 100%. Very unusual that an audience applauds at the end of a movie. I highly recommend this movie and would like to buy it to have it available to see it again in the future.

I didn't see the movie yet and I am at work so I am blocked from viewing the video but I believe the margin of victory was an incredible "26 lenghts".

I'm not a horse race fan but I believe that margin of victory was never duplicated in any of the triple crown races.

When Sport's Illustrated selected the top 100 athletes of all time, Secretariat was # 35...one ahead of Mickey Mantle

This was a travesty .....Secretariat never had to perform after staying out partying all night as did the Mick!

As an aside, I heard a great 1 1/2 hour interview of WFAN; Mike Francessa with Jane Levy whose new Mickey Mantle book, "The Last Boy," came out this week. She's a sportswriter who wrote a book on Kofax a few years back.

I was there when Secretariat won the Belmont. I was with my farther who loved horse racing. The crowd really went wild when he turned for home, I remember just clapping my hands, knowing that history was made that day. My farther had tears in his eyes, and told me I would never see another horse like that, as long as I live. I have a $2 dollar show bet on Secretariat just of keepsake. I stuck it in the program and cant remember what I did with it!!. I will definitely see the movie.

And, tpop, thank you for posting about the new book on Mickey Mantle. I am going to buy it to give as a Christmas present to our family's biggest baseball fan.

And......
