Film about EOD soldiers in Iraq. Actually filmed in Jordan. I'm amazed that it didn't win any major film awards. It was one of top three films for me this year. Avatar would not be on my list of films to see. So find this film and rent it if you want to see a first rate military film about what the EOD guys go through. Outstanding!

...claimed that non-military customers had really valued seeing The Hurt Locker whereas those with actual service in battlefields had scoffed about it.

I totallly agree that it is an outstanding film and I am also surprised it received no awards despite several nominations.
I have not been in a military environment other than a family member in the ATF, but I found it to be informative, gripping and,
I assumed, very realistic.
(not just a guy's flick!)

I saw it and while the first part is a powerful intro, I think that anyone that has been in the military will see the flaws.
