Default Pink Panther 2

Just returned from Pink Panther 2. Slapstick and great lines, too. That's my idea of a perfect combination.

I have been a Steve Martin fan for a really long time, since the King Tut and Wild and Crazy Guys days. And throw in John Cleese and Lily Tomlin and it just gets better.

Lilly Tomlin plays Mrs. Berenger who has been hired to make sure everyone maintains political correctness and appropriate behavior in the office. Inspector Clouseau is impossible for her. She finally tells him that he is perhaps the biggest nitwit she has ever encountered. The stuff he sees when she gives him the Rorschach inkblot test is really funny, though quite politically incorrect. Lily Tomlin is wearing her hair in sort of an Ernestine style, too, which makes her even funnier, as she plays completely straight-faced off Steve Martin. The Inspector just does not get what she is trying to teach him. They are great together.

And the rest of the movie is funny, too. Well, I thought so anyway. Slapstick and great lines. That's all I need to make me laugh. One or the other. Both -- even better.

I liked the first Pink Panther Steve Martin did, but this one, I think, is a lot better.

And Henry Mancini is still playing that tune.

I seem to recall the first movie of the Pink Panther I saw was way back when with Peter Sellers. It was hysterical and had the audience in fits of laughter. I'm going waaaay back with this and would love to see that version again.

MGM HD has been running the originals for the last week or so. It is a good channel for older movies in HD. It is on Time Warner here, but I don't know about other cable or satellite providers.
Steve Martin is funny, but he is NO Peter Sellers.

I will have to watch those originals again. The first time I saw them it was at the drive-in. I probably missed some stuff.

I'm sorry, Mac, but I thought Pink Panther 2 was one of the worst, unfunny movies I have ever seen. I am a huge Steve Martin fan, I liked the first Pink Panther, and I am a fan of the Peter Sellers version. I actually went to see it after I read your review. I think I had about 2 chuckles and there was no laughter from the audience at any point. I was supremely disappointed. Oh well, we aren't all going to have the same take on anything having to do with the arts.

I just looked at the list of movies on Direct TV. Or is it Directv? I rarely look at that list so this might be old news. But tonight, I looked. In fact, they do not even call it Pay Per View anymore. It is CineHD or something. I don't know when they changed the name, but...............

Anywaaaaaay,

Pink Panther 2 is on. I just might watch it again. Steve Martin and Lilly Tomlin, in those scenes where she tries to make him behave, were really funny playing off each other. Well, to me they were funny.

So if you could use something funny, Pink Panther 2 might work for you, too.
