I watched it a couple weeks ago. I struggled to stay with it to the end. It is very slow, and hard to get into, but I hung in there and I guess I'm glad I did.

I guess it is one of those movies you need a Cliff Notes guide to really appreciate.

Moonlight, Birdman, Let There be blood, Black Swan; all Oscar winners, all weird and hard to watch IMHO.

It had action, war, music, a good story. As already stated, they've become too political and I believe that was simply the case with this film. Birdman, I saw at Spanish Springs. I enjoyed it mainly because it was well acted and was different. Should not of been best picture, I did give it an 8 and best pictures I usually rate a 9 or 10.

There Will be Blood, I enjoyed it, gave it a 9. It was well acted, story was intriguing. If it had been about a real person, such as J. Paul Getty it would of been even more intriguing. For a long slow moving drawn out western that was even better, see The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford starring Brad Pitt.

Black Swan, loved that film. A modern day Hitchcock with suspense, intrigue, gave it a 9. The director Darren Aronofsky can be hit or miss, his previous film The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke I love that film, it's so brutal but so real. One of his earlier films Requiem for a Dream from 2000 is really good. It's a drug film which I don't usually like to watch, but he incorporated some Coen Bros type film effects with a great soundtrack and Ellen Burstyn as Jared Leto's mother is terrific.

The Shape of Water, last year's winner is one of my all time favorites already, I guess you can figure I gave a 10. Sally Hawkins was great as the def mute. If you want to see her in something also great, see Blue Jasmine and you'll also see another great in Cate Blanchette. Richard Jenkins I love in everything ever since he was the father in Six Feet Under. The Shape of Water will eventually replace Forrest Gump as the weekend flick that TNT or TBS will binge us with.

The Shape of Water was excellent. I agreed with the Oscar voters for its getting Best Picture last year. Really liked Green Book in this year's nominations but A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody were also quite good.

Whether you view it as a commentary or a story, it's depressing. I can appreciate the great acting and directing, but I'm only halfway through it, and whenever I think about going back and finishing it, I always find something else to do.
