What movies would be in your best Westerns of all time? I audited two classes from University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) movie critic and Professor Howard Rosenberg back in the early 1980s after I had earned two BAs from UNR. One of these was on Westerns. |

I love Yellowstone but it seems more like a soap opera.

IMHO, Lonesome Dove is the best and most realistic western movie I’ve ever seen.

Tombstone would be my second favorite. “You’re a daisy if you do”.

One of the movies we saw for the University of Nevada, Reno class was Lonely are the Brave with Kirk Douglas playing the lead role.
Worth a look. It is from 1962. Lonely Are the Brave - Rotten Tomatoes Last edited by Taltarzac725; 04-21-2023 at 11:20 PM. |

That cowboy campsite with the bean dinner scene is one of the funniest in all of the movies I have seen.

All the movies on the list are good, although some of them aren’t really westerns. I’d add Tombstone for sure, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

Really liked John Wayne, Lee Marvin and James Stewart in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

I'd add The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and Blazing Saddles and remove Hell or High Water and True Grit. My honorable mention would be Silverado.
