They missed a LOT of good westerns. They didn't include any of the cavalry trio directed by John Ford. Those are great westerns! Fort Apache, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Rio Grande.

What movies would be in your best Westerns of all time?

I audited two classes from University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) movie critic and Professor Howard Rosenberg back in the early 1980s after I had earned two BAs from UNR. One of these was on Westerns.
If you love western movies, you would probably love the book “West of Everything: The Inner Life of Westerns,” by Jane Tompkins. It gave me a new appreciation of westerns.

I thought the funniest scene was when they are riding in the desert, and there was a small toll booth sitting out there, no one had change so instead of going around it they went back.

I can remember going to the Drive-in theater to see Shane and we barely got in as they had to turn cars away. It was the only movie I went to that cars had to be turned away. Great movie with an interesting ending.

Still not sure what happened with that ending of Shane. He did not seem to be gut shot in the movie. Probably would not have long to live with that kind of wound.

I would add to those Red River and the wild bunch , I just don’t see the good the bad and the ugly as a great western compared to many others. I never liked the spaghetti westerns much I’ve see them but wouldn’t watch them again like I do other old westerns

OMG! No one ever watched Once Apon A Time In The Old West? It stars Henry Fonda and a bunch of other great stars. This is the only movie in which Fonda plays the bad guy.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. From top to bottom, easily had the best "western" cast of all time.

I have been watching some of that. Great opening sequence with the three killers waiting for the train.

Jack Elam, one of the three, was a favorite character actor of mine.
