Default "Rust" 2024.

The movie Rust comes out on various platforms on May 2, 2025. I would bet that all the people or most of them who worked on it would want it to be seen by movie lovers. They would also probably be getting some money from its release. Some huge safety and other failures related to the movie but it might be an entertaining film despite them.

Rust (2024) | Rotten Tomatoes

'''Rust''' movie trailer released 4 years after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins''' on-set death

The money from its release seems to be going to the wrongful death settlement.

Many involved more people. This was just a case of gross negligence on the part of the gun handler. No actor should be checking their weapon for live ammo on the set. It is not their job. What if the actor does not know duds from real bullets?

The Rust movie is OK. Great cinematography and some very good acting by some well known actors.

How 'Midnight Rider' Victim Sarah Jones Lost Her Life
I worked with this girl for 6 years on a show in Atlanta and this is by far the most tragic incident previously.

The Feb. 20 death of 27-year-old camera assistant Sarah Jones on the set of Midnight Rider outside Doctortown, Ga., spread grief and anger through Hollywood. It has led to an industrywide reckoning on safety standards and inspired some Oscars attendees to wear black ribbons on their lapels in her memory. Many of the details of the accident remain murky and unknown. But now a THR reconstruction, based on an exclusive eyewitness account and interviews with Jones’ parents and others, reveals harrowing new details of what happened when a 20-person film crew tried to shoot a scene on a live train track.

There are rules in place for this. Union rules. The prop master/gun handler, 1st AD are the 2 people in charge. The correct protocol is to call a safety meeting, all the crew stands around as the 1st AD and prop person open the chamber, show it’s empty, the AD signs off on it being empty and yells, COLD GUN…. There actually should never be a real gun on set for rehearsal either. It should be a rubber gun or non working gun of some kind. These are standard rules. That prop person had just been fired off a Nick Cage film for her lack of safety. And on Rust, the entire camera crew quit due to lack of safety. They were working with non union inexperienced crew at this point.

Midnight Rider (film - Wikipedia)

That does sound awful. Criminal decisions on the parts of various people.

If an actor doesn’t know the difference he shouldn’t handle a real gun. Baldwin claims to be a gun expert. He murdered that girl. There is no scenario in any situation where a person pulling the trigger can get away with saying they themselves were not responsible for the shooting. Literally the first rule of gun safety is to never point a gun at something you don’t intend to destroy.

He is on a movie set. Not his or her responsibility to check the guns. In fact, it would be chaos to have actors checking their weapons for live ammo especially if their expertise is for bragging rights. By "bragging rights" I mean they actually know very little about firearms.
