Default "Saving Private Ryan" (1998)

Saving Private Ryan - Rotten Tomatoes

With with the Anniversary of D-Day tomorrow Saving Private Ryan is a good film to highlight.

And the parents of one of the casting people for Saving Private Ryan lived here or may still live here. Used to talk to the father at a local dog park rather often. He was still upset that it did not win Best Picture. I sure thought it should have won over Shakespeare in Love.

There are a number of parents of various TV and/or movie actors/actresses or other workers here in the Villages. Probably the most prominent is the developer's grand daughter Megan Boone.

I had talked with Mel Brook's niece while meeting her dogs a number of years ago also at a local dog park but those pooches did not get along well with the other dogs. And she used to post on Talk of the Villages often but only posts once in a while now.

Re SPR. On my top 10 list. But I simply cannot bring myself to watch the first twenty minutes. Too realistic and heart wrenching for me. My ex-wife’s father was in Dday. His boat capsized about 1/2 mile out from the beaches, in the first wave of troops. He almost drowned but was picked up later and the worst was over when he finally landed.

He lived and came back to marry and have 7 children.

I was proud to know him.

As a ww2 "buff" it's a must see, along with Band of Brothers.

Good movie. But the first part of where they are initially landing on the beach was heart-wrenching. I watched as those landing craft doors opened and men died immediately and thought, as former military, could I/would I do that?
