Those are both very good. I recall my supervisory at the U of MN Law Library was studying Lakota while I was there and was thrilled when Dances with Wolves won Best Picture. She had hired a Lakota to teach her their language.

Dances with Wolves.

Biggest mistake?
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
Cringing awful.

Anything but "The Untouchables". The title reminds me too much of the girls I used to date. 😩

No. Neither. Could they have been worse?

They were both fun but bad movies.

One of his first roles was of a card shark or something like that in Reno, Nevada.

Not a "movie" role per se but I thought Costner was very good as Devil Anse Hatfield in "Hatfields and McCoys".

Also enjoyed Waterworld, as well as Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, both not so much for Costner as for the supporting cast. Waterworld was basically stolen by Dennis Hopper as the Deacon of the "Deez, and Jeanne Tripplehorn had certain undeniably appealing (ahem) attributes. As far as "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves", a rollicking good flick as long as you ignored the fact that "history" was obviously NOT what the movie was based on. Plus, Morgan Freeman was excellent as always.

Dances With Wolves? Great scenery but the revisionism was pretty over-the-top.

True about the revisionism.

A movie and book somewhat like Dances with Wolves has the same title of Little Big Man. One of the movies my Earl Wooster High School Native American History course took a field trip to see at the Pioneer Theater in Reno, Nevada. It was very good.
