Just another validation that polls or numbers or statistics can be made to reflect anything the pollster wants.....and as in most polls adds little or no value what so ever.

The movie is trash....even stated as such by others in the business of making movies.

You know the old saying get them to know your name and then try to correct your reputation.

So you're saying I should discount 3560 people (possible some of whom are "in the business") who give the film an average rating of 8.9 of 10 as irrelevant but your opinion coupled with "others in the business" I should embrace and not see this movie?

That is not what I said. I was presenting my opinion/outlook/opinion about the numbers. I most certainly did not ask for you to dismiss anything OR to accept my opinion. You are entitled to your belief but not the re-stating of my intent.

No I did not see the movie. As I said previously after reading the reviews and seeing a trailer it was obvious to me it was not a movie for me and certainly not for members of my family.

This is not a movie for The Villages. It was Made to appeal to young adults and middle aged adults. Too harsh for kids and beyond the comfort zone of us old folks. Like Gracie, I want to see uplifting messages in a movie. I doubt if we here reflect what the general population of movie goers are after. So far, the reviews are mostly positive. Don't forget, most of us here found funny in the F Word when Ralfey said it in Christmas Story. So, although it is not my cup of tee, I will not discount that millions of Americans will find it very entertaining. Out of respect for them I will refer to it as NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE VERY YOUNG OR OLD.

The reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are OK for the Wolf of Wall Street.

Do not forget that a lot of teens and twenty somethings visit the Villages movie theaters during the Holidays and come in from surrounding communities during other days of the year. With much on TV as well as in the movies now, many seem to have very different sensibilities as to cursing and sex and violence in the media.

Really doubt if my parents would like The Wolf of Wall Street however even if I would not find much of it unpleasant because of the "f" word and other stuff.

True and I would think the teens and twenty something's are the very people that would love this movie. The theater is a business, but I wish they would cater more to the old folks like me. Yes I am old and ready to expire, but I am a resident. On the other hand, this type language is the reality of today and perhaps we should not stick our heads in the sand????

I always discount the reviews from users that are out the first day. I suspect the studios are involved with some of the favorable reviews to get people to go to the movies. I wait a few days, then read what I think are more accurate user reviews.

If I used this forum as a gauge for good-vs-bad movies, and for good-vs-bad restaurants, I would be missing out on a lot of great films, and I would be bordering starvation.

Now I am really curious about the movie.

It is probably art reflecting real life and the explicit details.

But I understand and agree. Too much profanity can be a turn off and detract from the film.

Like Gracie, I prefer "feel-good" movies. However I enjoyed American Hustle, we saw it today at Brownwood. It was interesting and well acted, with a lot of plot twists. I'm a big Jennifer Lawrence fan, ever since Silver Livings Playbook, a movie I loved.

We are so lucky in TV to have three theaters playing 27 movies from which to choose. Something for everyone's tastes. The movies that aren't well attended never last long. It's all good.

What I'm raving about is the Brownwood Theater. :MOJE_whot: Absolutely gorgeous, the seats are so comfortable with leg room galore.

IMHO wish it was just profanity, some of this was almost porn!...DeCaprio was the draw for me, always a great actor...this movie was beneath him!...We were not alone when we left movie early!

Agreed. Only problem is...I'm spoiled. I'm 6'-6" tall and I'll probably never go to SS or LSL theaters again. :^)

We went to American Hustle yesterday and the F word was flying practically every other word. This was also a movie that got very high ratings! I would give this three thumbs down if I had them!

I have not seen the Wolf of Wall Street and won't based on this blog that a friend posted on Facebook. It's written by the daughter of Tom Prousalis, the protagonist in the movie. The blog is a poignant account of the impact on the lives of the family and his victims.
