thank you. Lookie, bon jovi grew up handsome..
I used to play his "It's my life" to inspire GED students at their orientation.

Lyrics...Hallelujah sounds like nostalgic worship in style but is a disturbing song,

I heard there was a secret chord
that David played and it pleased the lord
but you don't really care for music do ya
Well it goes like this the fourth the fifth
the minor fall and the major lift
the baffled king composing hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah

Well your faith was strong but you needed proof
you saw her bathing on the roof
her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
she tied you to a kitchen chair
she broke your throne and she cut your hair
and from your lips she drew the hallelujah.

Hallelujah,hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah

Baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
You know, I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
and love is not a victory march
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah,hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah

Well there was a time when you let me know
what's really going on below
but now you never show that to me do you
but remember when I moved in you
and the holy dove was moving too
and every breath we drew was hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah

Well maybe there's a god above
but all I've ever learned from love
was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
it's not somebody who's seen the light
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah

I love Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley and Bon Jovi, but K.D. Lang nailed Cohen's song. Magnificent.

P.S. That's Leonard Cohen at the very end of the video.

Here's 2 more versions - the first with the words changed for Easter, and the second as sung at a wedding. That haunting music is beautiful......

Love Bon Jovi - he is the first concert I took my 11 year old daughter too - thought she was going to rush the stage. Good memories of a very good man. Thanks for sharing.

I have never heard a version that wasn't great. My favorite is by a young woman named Brandi Carlisle. I think that hallelujah is just one of those rare songs that combine a certain chord progression that stirs something in humans. Add to that the genius of Leonard Cohen lyrics and it becomes timeless. One of my favorite lines from a Leonard Cohen poem is :
"Like a bird on a wire
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free".

I think K. D. Lang's version is absolutely the best. It is interesting to hear Leonard Cohen sing it.

Musicorp Wounded Warrier Band with Aaron Neville. If you don't mind the commercial at the beginning, you will be rewarded and most probably will be weeping by the end. They have also performed this song with Roger Waters and Oleta Adams
