Hey Chels,,,
Just got home. Was out for the evening and had to watch the DVR to get the results.
My hope was Jason Castro to go. He's a cutie , but his "duh' attitude turns me off.

2nd pick for me to leave was Brooke. Too sweetzie. And I think Simon has the hots for her or she would already be gone. Yep,,, she can play piano, but,,, She can't sing That great...
I kinda liked Chakeezee tho. Had a good voice for alot of the stuff I like.

PS Chels... How was your Easter,,, How was dinner???
I cooked for a crowd here in NC... Still eating freakin HAM!!!!
Threw out the mashed pot. and asparagas..
But geez,,, I need a STEAK!!!!

Great Links Mint!

We still have to get rid of Kristy and Ramiele and Brooke. Then the competion can begin. I just hope it is those 3 first (in any order).

Re: Favorite American Idol Contestant

Really surprised that Syesha Mercado was in the bottom three this week. She must not have developed a loyal fan base like many of the others who IMHO have far less talent than she does. Call that the Taylor Hicks phenomenon. The Soul Patrol (Taylor Hicks' die hard fans) kind of took over Season 5 on American Idol. Liked Katherine McPhee, Elliott Yamin, Chris Daughtry, Paris Bennett and Kellie Pickler more than Taylor Hicks on AI5.

What place did Daughtry finish that year. In terms of record sales i think he is number 3 behind Clarkson and Underwood.

I knew you'd have the answer faster than i could look it up. Thanks!

Quite impressive for a number 4 finisher!

Re: Favorite American Idol Contestant

Have had many of the Idol contestants from my neck of the woods.
Chris Daughtry from the next town over, Fantasia from our town, Clay Akin, Bucky Covington and Kelly Pickler less than hour away.
This is the first time in years with no Carolina contestants in the top 12.

I think when it gets down to the last 5 or 6, it's gonna be hard to let any of em go tho.
So much talent.

But the headbanger that I still am, I always go for the rockers. Hated Amanda left.
Loved Chris Daughtry and Bo Bice.
And even if David Cook doesn't win, I agree he'll make the most $$$...

Some random thoughts about AI.

Wonder if with Kellie Pickler is that just a dumb blonde act or is she naturally that way??

If they pick country songs next week as the genre to chose from, we may get Kristy Lee Cook for another week.

Had been hoping that Chris Daughtry would win AI5 even though I liked to see Katherine McPhee stay around too. There is always the pretty girl factor with us straight guys like with Kellie Pickler, Brooke White, Kristy Lee Cook, etc. the pretty boy factor also seems to explain Jason Castro and to a lesser extent Michael Johns.

Mintjulep 03-28-2008 02:25 PM

Re: Favorite American Idol Contestant

Tal,
Just hope Jason doesn't become this years Sanjaya.

Kelly Pickler was cute as a contestant, but then she went thru that awful Dolly Parton look.
It's great for Dolly, but not Kelly. Thank goodness she's starting to ditch it.
And I think she's just naturally a dingbat. No acting. But cute tho.
She'd be great on a sitcom.

I think Micheal Johns is very handsome, but I tend to gravitate to the kinda different, quiet seeming intelligence, of David Cook, and word nerd that he is. (Can ya tell I'm a fan???)

I think Chris D. was glad he didn't come in # 1 as he would have had to be stuck with the AI contract, and wouldn't have had much control over his career for quite awhile.
As least that's what he said on one of the local news interviews.
But I also thought he should have won...

Mint:
Thanks for posting the 2 versions of Billie Jean. David Cook's was my favorite.

I wish David had been able to sing the whole song instead of the AI version. He is my choice for the winner. I am not usually drawn to the rockers but there is something about this guy that is original and appealing. He has the stage presence and confidence and the voice.

Re: Favorite American Idol Contestant

They were doing country songs last night of those somehow associated with the very talented Dolly Parton. Kind of hard to predict who will be in the bottom three tonight because of how much Kristy Lee Cook was in her element with the genre of the week being country-western.

Sort of see Carly Smithson, Syesha Mercado and Ramiele Malubay as the bottom 3??? >:( With Syesha Mercado leaving?

Syesha Mercado was my favorite among the ladies when I started the poll. I am just trying to predict the votes and not who I thought was actually better than the others last night.

Have not heard that much about Taylor Hicks of late. Chris Daughtry still seems to be all over the place though.

Agree with the analysis TAL.

If you haven't heard Daughtry's whole album do yourself a favor, it is excellent. He also has a one hour concert that is being shown on the MHD network. It is available on my comcast HD channels up here in MA. Well worth your time to catch it if you like rock.

I will have to check that out, Russ Boston. Last year, I was rooting for Melinda Doolittle who managed to last up through the top 3 of that Season. Does not seem like my favorite contestants on AI win all that often except think I liked Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson the most in their respective seasons.

Re: Favorite American Idol Contestant

I am finding it really hard to predict who will leave tonight.
Dolly really seemed to like everyone but I think the top two singers were Michael John and David Cook. They both took Dolly's songs and instead of mimicking her style they put there own twist on the performance,as usual.
Kristy was good and country is her niche but I found the performance boring.
Syesha has a beautiful voice but she can't get out of the Whitney Hooston mode. Maybe it was her last performance.
Ramielle is having a hard time so it could be her last chance.
Like I said, hard to predict this one.
IMHO!!!!!

Agree that this one is hard to predict as to who will go tonight. Jason Castro seemed to do well enough that he will not be the bottom three tonight and the other contestants also seemed on their game.

Re: Favorite American Idol Contestant

I love this show because it's always changing! I love the way David Cook sings, but for some reason I have a hard time watching him. He mentioned on one of his tapes that his skull is too big and that's all I can look at now! His big (size) head! How shallow of me??? I know, but I can't help it. Didn't think he was as good as last week's Billie Jean. Kristy Cooke (clearly not my favorite) looked great and she was in her element. Last night, I actually felt sorry for Carly, she had tears in her eyes, when Simon told her to start dressing like a star. Ladies, I think it's clear that Michael Johns is the best eye candy, but let's not forget how talented he is. Last night he was great! He can tell me "sexy lies" all night! :o Did I say that??? Yes, I think the winner of this one is hard to predict. p.s. love Daughtry and still miss Amanda. THEY ROCK!

Re: Favorite American Idol Contestant

Unfortunately, the arm tattoo, her husband's facial tattoos, and her clothes last night probably put Carly in the bottom three tonight on AI.

I am kind of shallow too when it comes to the sex appeal of some of the female AI contestants. Find Brooke White, Kristy Lee Cook, and Syesha Mercado really add to my hetereosexual enjoyment of the show. Madonna sure capitalized on her sexuality with her career as have many other singers like Britney Spears, Elvis, the Rolling Stones, etc.

Re: Favorite American Idol Contestant

Carly is a fantastic singer, but I am afraid Simon was right , she isn't promoting her star quality. That is going to be hard with a tatoo up one whole arm. The husband is......sorry got to say what I feel.....scary looking. I just can't get past the tatoos. I actually hate the all over large tatoo's. A butterfly on your ankle...okay...a rose on a butt cheek, or just peeking out above a breast .....sexy.....but all over your face IMHO.....is a shame.

The daughter of a friend of mine has a snake spiraling up her leg from the ankle to her knee. She thought it rocked at 19, a bit embarrased at 25, now at 30 something and the mother of twins she only wears long pants.....

:agree: Beady I really don't like tattoos at all. I just felt sorry for her. She really looked hurt.

Re: Favorite American Idol Contestant

Was really happy with the results on the vote last night on AI. America actually seemed to vote for the person or persons with the better singing abilities rather than sex appeal, charm, clothing, tattoos or the absence of them, etc.

Hope they do as well this year as they did last year with Idol Gives Back too. :clap2: 024 040 wav

There does not seem to be a Soul Patrol like fan base taking over AI this season.

Tal: you got that right, America voted responsibly, Ramielle was cute and sincere but did not have the talent to stand with the rest of the group. Now it gets interesting.

Do not recall if they mentioned who next weeks mentor is going to be. Anyone know?

I'm not a fan of Kristy Cooke so I may be viewing her differently but, is it just me or does she look really disgusted with the whole thing in general. Except when she's singing, she seems to glare. She'd never get my vote.

These were the announced mentors for this season:

Dolly Parton
Mariah Carey
Neil Diamond
Andrew Lloyd Webber

No information on when they appear though??

She may be upset with the votefortheworst.com web-site as she has been the target of this site since Amanda Overmyer left. Would think that this site is something the AI contestants would be cognizant of as it has been around for a while.

Kristy Lee Cook is probably expecting to leave. Had picked Syesha Mercado to go last week because she has showed up in the bottom three a few times. Was that not one of the first and last times Ramiele Malubay was one of the bottom three?

Also thought Malubay had a Filipino-American voting bloc behind her so I was surprised when she went.

Thanks for the update Mint.

It is getting harder for me to watch the AI programs live as there are many other competing shows like Criminal Minds I also try to catch when they are not repeats.

Watch AI live? Are you kidding? That show was made for TIVO/DVR - 20 minutes of content max per hour. The results show has even less per hour. I didn't even watch the super bowl live and I'm a Patriot season ticket holder! I use my DVR for any and all tv watching.

Agree with you there Russ Boston. I often tape AI unless nothing else is on the tube. Unfortunately, not much else was on TV because of the writer's strike the past few months. Glad that many of the new shows are returning.
