According to John Lennon, in "How Do You Sleep", the only thing he ever did was "Yesterday"!

OK, that's a little harsh, although there is not much he did without Lennon that I cared for. "Maybe I'm Amazed" wasn't bad. Of course, Lennon's solo work was also nowhere near what he did with McCartney. But I guess I grew out of my pop music phase about the time Rubber Soul came out. Apparently, McCartney never did.

There are a lot of McCarney's tunes I liked in the album, but don't stand alone well, like "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.

Hmmmm.... it's a good question.

How about "Good Day Sunshine"?

Oh -- just thought of a better one -- "Rocky Racoon"!

LOVE this McCartney song. Great lyrics. A haunting melody. Happy, yet sad. Simple but complex/ Typical Paul....

Another Day

Paul McCartney: Another Day single artworkWritten by: Mr & Mrs McCartney
Recorded: 12 October 1970, January 1971
Producer: Paul and Linda McCartney

Paul McCartney: vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, percussion
Linda McCartney: backing vocals
David Spinozza: acoustic guitar, electric guitar
Denny Seiwell: drums, percussion
‘Another Day’, Paul McCartney’s debut solo single

Another Day’ was one of McCartney’s songs about fictional people. He had written similar songs in the past, such as ‘Eleanor Rigby’ and ‘For No One’, and it was a songwriting technique he would increasingly turn to in the coming years.

The lyrics tell the story of a woman living on her own in an unnamed city, locked in a mundane daily routine of going to work, coming home to an empty flat and dreaming of “the man of her dreams” who fleetingly “comes to break the spell”. Drummer Denny Seiwell described the song as “Eleanor Rigby in New York City

Another Day Lyrics

Ev'ry day she takes a morning bath she wets her hair
Wraps a towel around her as she's heading for the
bedroom chair
It's just another day
Slipping into stockings, stepping into shoes
Dipping in the pocket of her raincoat
It's just another day
At the office where the papers grow she takes a break
Drinks another coffe and she finds it hard to stay
awake
It's just another day

Du du du du du du, it's just another day
Du du du du du du, it's just another day

Chorus
So sad, do sad
Sometimes she feels so sad
Alone in her apartment she'd dwell
Till the man of her dreams come to break the spell
Ah, stay, don't stand her up
And he comes and he stays but he leaves the next day
So sad
Sometimes she feels so sad

As she posts another letter to the sound of five
People gather 'round her and she finds it hard to stay
alive

Du du du du du du, it's just another day
Du du du du du du, it's just another day

Chorus

Ev'ry day she takes a morning bath she wets her hair
Wraps a towel around her as she's heading for the
bedroom chair
It's just another day
Slipping into stockings, stepping into shoes
Dipping in the pocket of her raincoat
It's just another day

Du du du du du du, it's just another day
Du du du du du du, it's just another day

I guess you could say one guy's "haunting melody" is another guy's ear worm.

Wait... OMG, what have you done? It's started! That repetitive du du du du! OH GOD! And now... Oh no, it can't be! The track just switched to "Silly Love Songs"!

AAAARRRGHH!!!

Default Paul McCartney after the Beatles.

Mull of Kintyre and Live and Let Die. Depends on my mood at the moment.

The Beatles are one of the most influential bands in history. That being said, I do not consider them exceptionally good musicians. They were great songwriters, and certainly pushed music forward into uncharted territory. I just do ot feel they were exceptional at playing their instruments.

McCartney's bass lines on "Something" and "Come Together" are considered magic by bass players the world over.

His piano playing was also exceptional, as was his guitar work.

Was he a shredder like Steve Vai? Of course not, but his songs didn't call for that...

Ringo is a god to drummers such as Dave Grohl, Max Weinberg, Questlove, and other iconic players...

His fills on songs, such as "Rain" and "A Day in the Life" are iconic...

And don't even get me started on how Harrison evolved as a guitar (and sitar) player.
