Default 1883 or Yellowstone - Which Should I Watch First?

I asked this question on a related thread but got no replies, so I'm starting this separate thread because I really would like some opinions...

They are not closely connected, so either one.

Au contraire, Davonu, your question was not overlooked.

I guess you missed it.

I quoted and answered your question in the other thread. It is Post #49, on January 10, in the thread about 1883.

Of course, I elaborated, as I am wont to do, on why I liked having seen Yellowstone first. But, that’s just me, analyzing character motivation. It probably works fine, either way.

Start with Yellowstone. It gives you insight into the characters and culture.
1883 is a prequel for a reason.

Not sure I understand this. What is the “reason”? It almost seems like a “reason” might be that a prequel comes first…which might mean watching it first is the thing to do. No?

So far, to date, I have seen all the episodes of Yellowstone and got to know all the characters. I then started watching 1883 and have seen all so far. Personally, I would suggest watching Yellowstone first because it develops characters and the reason why they are where they are. Consider 1883 as a sort of prequel which will help make it clear where the Yellowstones main characters came from.

Either one. We started watching Yellowstone 3 years ago and have now watched 3 full seasons. We started watching 1883 and have watched all episodes that have been released thus far. No connection so far other than the last name of the pioneers being the same as the last name of the present day land owners in Yellowstone.

Personally I don’t care for programs with nudity or foul language. It’s unnecessary in telling the story.

Yellowstone. You can watch the seasons. By the time you are done, the other will have a complete season to watch.

Yellowstone started first, so we started with that but 1883 tells how Yellowstone first came to be, so it’s about the chicken or the egg- both are really good places to start!
