Another Slant on Previous Request for TV Series Thread
My wife and I really loved the following three detective series: 1) The Mentalist; 2) Monk, and 3) Psych.
They were all first and foremost really good quality crime solving shows. Private investigators working with law enforcement to solve crimes. But they also share the fact that they were consistently, week-in and week-out, very funny. The main characters personalities were so likeable, relatable, and yes...funny. There was consistent subtle, clever humor. And occasionally they'd get a bit silly or wacky, but just enough, never too much. And I want to stress, the humor never got in the way of or superseded the crime investigation nature of the show. The investigations were always clever, interesting and hard to predict. Well, naturally my question is... Can anybody recommend other shows that could be considered similar to the above three shows? Thanks much. |

Perry Mason? Did we watch two different shows? Perry was kind of serious all the time. I don’t recall him having any sense of humor.
I do agree with your other two shows, though. Trying to think of a tv show that has a humor aspect and my brain is blank right now. Trying to think of it. Aaaargh!

Thank you for starting this thread. I know what you mean about liking a little humor in detective stories.
In another thread running here, that is more general, I learned about a series that I never would have found otherwise. . . A Touch of Frost. . . Sometimes you have to pay close attention so you don’t miss the funny, usually snarky, comments that the detective Jack Frost mumbles. His aim is often his boss. The boss loves to preen before television cameras and Frost has a way of manipulating him to get him out of his hair by redirecting his attention to getting ready to go before the cameras. And it’s so easy. The crime is solved in one episode. I like that better than taking an entire season to get things solved. Another thank you from me to the poster, fishon, who recommended A Touch of Frost in the other thread. It has become our go-to. Those of us who like New Tricks will like this one, too. (Monk is a classic. I think there is a little Monk in all of us. Not a lot — maybe — but everybody’s got something.) Boomer Last edited by Boomer; 11-09-2021 at 09:46 AM. |
