Default Has anybody watched the Netflix documentary about Madoff?

In January, Netflix came out with Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street. I think there are 4 episodes.

Madoff (geez, his name is even allegorical) was a lying, thieving, completely self-absorbed, manipulative sociopath, with a cult following. It is mind-boggling and horrifying and sad and infuriating to see how people fall for such types. But sociopaths know how to push people’s buttons to get what they want out of those who worship them. Sociopaths have huge egos and no conscience. Madoff got by with what he was doing for a very long time.

I think there have been other shows about Madoff, but this is the newest one, and it is well worth watching.

I did watch it, it was very well done, worth the 4 hours. My takeaway was, he was more of a common criminal than a Wall Street leader. Even though he was the president of NASDAQ for a while, he never invested a penny in any market ever. He simply took in money and spent it.

He was successful due to our basic GREED. He offered huge returns on his investors money and people fell for it. They forgot the old saying "if it sounds too good to be ture .................".

What is the old saying "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
Madoff is gone, but it won't be long before he is replaced by someone else.
Madoff is just a symptom the underline problem is greed.

Personally I wouldn’t watch 4 episodes of this stuff, it does mean anything!

Very much like the Dopesick documentary about the Sackler family.

I watched all episodes and learned many things about Madoff that I never knew--especially as regards his family.

Madoff is not the only person to trade on the elderly and trusting people. GWG sold by Michael L Whitaker and Associates fits in the same category. Many people, and clients, held Whitaker's advice in high regard when he recommended GWG as a very good company in which he invested in. Buyer beware when dealing with "Financial Advisors" in The Villages. Not all have or are going to act in your best interest.
