Personally I think the show is hilarious, but the next person may hate it or find it offensive. I say start at the beginning and watch a few episodes and make up your own mind. I was watching reruns of it the other day and they literally had me in tears laughing.

It was a very funny show about everyday people who care about each other but have their differences. The acting is great. If you are squeamish about gay people, you won't like that part of it, although I don't remember anything physical happening there. Each show has a message. Like others, I enjoyed the first few seasons the most.
Also, I agree with the Schitt's Creek assessment, although there is a gay couple in there too. And they knew when to end the show.

I wasn't a huge fan, but my sister LOVED it. So you really can't go by other people. Watch an episode or 2 and see for yourself.

One of the things that took some getting used to was that they switched from vignette to vignette. Something's happening here with these people, then something's happening there with those people, etc. In the end it all comes together, but back then this was kind of a new way of doing a tv show. I didn't like it at first, but I got used to it. More shows are like that now. I think that style appeals to the younger, internet generation who are used to things moving faster.

I love it. Some of the funniest lines I've ever heard on television.
But I do agree that it kind of jumped the shark after several years.
