Anyone use TIVO? Morning joe had CEO on and it sounded " too good to be true"
Do you find it to be less expensive , better quality?
Thanx

I have been using TIVO for about 8 years. It is a great system! I have been always been amazed by how often the make enhancements to the software and have never had a rate increase. Send me a PM if you want to chat about TIVO.

I have used Tivo since it first came out (Model 1) maybe 13-14 years ago.

I now have a Model 2, but have never upgraded to the current versions since I also have a DVR in my Comcast box.

The Tivo software is much easier to use than the Comcast, but there is surely some setup required based on your cable system that Comcast does not need.

I love my TiVo boxes. We never need to be home for a show we like.
I never watch a commercial.
My TiVo boxes move with me and my wife never needed to learn a new video recording system. We have had Comcast, FIOS and Directv, she never knew that we changed. We only need one remote for TV, cable box and video recording.

Another vote for TiVo from another long-time user. I currently have (not at The Villages) two HD TiVo boxes - one with 2 channels, and one with 4 channels of recording. The biggest plus for TiVo vs the ones from the cable companies is their software. It is much easier to use and program, than any of the others that I've seen.

The new TiVo Roamio box looks like a good package. If they had streaming to Android devices besides the existing streaming to IOS, I might even spend the dough to upgrade. Right now, I'm very happy with the TiVos I have.

I've had 2 TIVOs for many years. I have wireless on both so I can transfer shows between them. At the time I bought the life time contract so that I don't have a monthly charge. It's paid for itself many time over. I LOVE TIVO. The Comcast version isn't anywhere as good.

LOVE our Tivo!!! Cannot understand how some folks don't get it using the excuse that they think it would be too difficult to use or understand! We can record several shows while still watching another. I'd go along with the others and say we'd VOTE a "yes" to Tivo!!!

We had one of the cable company's DVRs in the past. It was fine.

I bought a "series 2' Tivo for an older TV several years ago. I will retire it next year. The cable company if forcing everyone to digital cable. It works fine but will not work with digital cable.

I am also using Windows 7 Media Center on a new Big Screen LED TV. The setup is a laptop, a Media Center remote control, and a HDHomerun DualTuner from SiliconDust. That tuner can be shared over the network with multiple computers and devices (e.g., android). It works great. The setup serves as a Dual Tuner DVR for over the air broadcast TV, DVD player, media streamer, etc. There is no subscription cost like Tivo. I like it much better than Tivo.

I am considering dumping cable TV next year. I think Over The Air Broadcast and streaming services like Netflix + Netflix DVD along with Amazon Instant can meet our needs at a lower cost.

If I were to buy a new Tivo... there are two things I would probably do:

1) I would stick with the lowest cost version. Mainly because it looks like it can work with either Cable and Over The Air Transmission. If I decided to dump cable later, I could still use the device to record over the air broadcast TV. The more expensive versions look like they are cable TV only.

2) I would probably go ahead and pay the one time approx $500 fee for the lifetime of the device service. It looks like one breaks even in 2.8 yrs of use compared to paying yearly at $15/mo rate.

Things are changing a lot in terms of TV and video media. Whatever I purchased, I would try to select something that would keep my future options open.

Thanx everyone! One of my concerns is with the speed of technology . Buying a TIVO device with one fee for lifetime sounds like the way to go. Do you know : can I have a TIvo device in NJ and watch in fl? Or is that still to come Reason I ask is I want to watch The JETS without buying direct TV

Maybe you should start with the things you want to do (list them).

Cool

I used to have Tivo.... Be careful with the lifetime fee...it covers only the device lifetime; not yours! If your device becomes defective and is replaced [by Tivo], your lifetime fee is no longer valid.... If you wish to remain on lifetime, you'll have to pay the fee again. The fee does NOT transfer to the new device.

Read their service agreement very carefully, concerning this issue....
