Default Private Message downloading, deleting

Saving a great number of Private Messages puts an undue burden on the performance of the forum.

Please keep your Private Message area clean.

You don't have to lose your messages, though. You can download all your messages to your own to your own computer. The forum software will send you one file containing all your sent and received Private Messages in one of three formats, XML, CSV and Text.

If you know what the XML format is, then use that one if you wish. We suggest CSV or Text.

A CSV file will important directly into a spreadsheet program for your use as a mini database.

A Text file will open in a word processor, even a cheap one.

You download your messages from the the PM section of the forum.
  • Up at the top right of the forum page is the Welcome message, followed by your name.
  • A couple lines below that is Private Messages. Click on that.
  • Go all the way to the bottom of the page, and on the right side you will see "Download all Private Messages as:"
  • Click on one of the three formats mentioned above.
  • A file will download to your computer.
Now you may delete the PMs from the forum.
  • In the black bar above the list of messages, look to the right.
  • You will see Messages: followed by the number of messages you have.
  • To the right of the numeral is a check box.
  • Check the box and all the messages will be selected.
  • Go to the bottom of the page and you will see a drop down dialogue box to the right of "Selected messages;'
  • Drop it down to delete
  • Click the Go button to the right.

You must also do the same with your sent messages.
To see your sent messaages, look near the top of the PM list in the Folder Control box.
  • Click the dropdown dialoge box and select Sent Items.
  • Perform the mass deletion there the same way.
