We have an adult son who is a stroke victim and handicapped and now lives with us. I am surprised and very disappointed in the lack of handicapped equipped facilities here in this wonderful place. It is very difficult for a person on crutches or a walker or in a wheelchair to enter any rec center. None have electric doors! It's great that they have made the pools handicapped accessible but something needs to be done to make our rec centers handicap accessible. With our aging population, more and more of us need aids to get around. It just doesn't fit that our new health awareness doesn't insist on electronic doors.

I agree with you on this one. When we are in different offices (primarily medical) it is interesting to see how many times DH or I will open doors for handicapped or the very elderly. Most of the rec centers all have curbs in front of them and are a problem if you cannot walk or step up easily. The county admin building on 466/Morse put in easy to open doors and left the high curbing....a oversite on someones part.

I agree also.... with all due respect.... I was under the impression that The Villages is a ACTIVE community. I was told in the past that they would not make any arrangements for the needs of anyone else.
