Default How do you clip only part of a quote for a response.

I notice that a lot of people are able to pull out a sentence or two of a wordy post, and post that on their reply in order to respond to that portion of the original post.

How is this done?

Hi Richie,

Just click on quote and the whole quote appears.

Then highlight what you want to cut out(put cursor at begining of what you want to get get rid, hold the cusor, and slide the mouse over the rest you want to cut) and hit backspace.

Hope this helps.

Instead of "Post Reply" hit "Quote" when reading a post. When original message opens up you will see the text of the "quoted poster" between QUOTE and /QUOTE.

You can edit the text between those tags like any other part of post, so just delete the words you do not wish to see. Then hit Preview Post to check before submit.

While we are on the subject of quotes, could somebody please explain how to get more than one of the blue-background quotes in a post? I have never figured that out and I have ended up cutting and pasting the second one, but I like the blue-background quotes better because it is more clear that they are from a different post.

Thanks.

Next to the "quote" button is a " button. Just hit that on each of the quotes you want, then hit "reply".

Oh my gosh! Mak! Thank you!

I guess that has been staring me in the face forever and I paid no attention. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Ohhhhhh, the stories I could tell about how I have made such a fool of myself by missing the obvious. (I once fell into a fountain at a shopping mall. Not watching where I was going. Walked right up. Sat right down.)

I have written all those millions of posts on here and have never seen that " mark.

Missing the obvious. That is what I do.....uh oh.......maybe I really am an English major!

Thank you for helping me.

OMG, 4,000 posts and now I finally discover how to do multiple quotes. Thanks Boomer for asking the question.

Richie, as the OP of this thread you have the ability to add a poll to it by using the "Thread Tools" button above your first post. As a suggestion, consider creating one asking the question:

"Did you know how to use the quote mark (") to quote mulitple postings before you began reading this thread? Y or N."
The results could be interesting, or at least I think so! The Villages Florida
