I went there in the 80s, put on my fins, mask and snorkel and swam out to explore the ocean side of the reef. .

Very clear water, could see far easily.

Got to the ocean edge of the reef, and it went straight down . . .

now I am feeling very small, and thinking that if there was current, it was a long way to the bottom. .

I swam back to shallow water pretty quickly

Sharks tend to stay outside the reef, but no guarantees beyond it :-)
