Best driving route to Miami on a Sunday
Turnpike all the way or switch to I-95 at Fort Pierce? Obviously take 95 from TV but it looks like considerable savings (toll is half) if you switch over to 95 at Fort Pierce and take 95 the rest of the way south.

I always take the turnpike all the way. More tolls, but because of the tolls the turnpike always has a lot less traffic than 95. For me it is worth the extra few bucks to have less traffic.

I took HWY 27 last time.Took six hours to Palmetto Bay,but if your not in a big hurry it's a lot less Stress. There's plenty of places to stop for a snack or restroom.I came back on I75 just to see how that would be.Not a good idea.Worse than Turnpike and longer distance.I've been stuck in backups too many times on the Turnpike. An extra 1 1/2 Hrs doesn"t bother me,and if there's an accident on TPK in may take longer.

Turnpike all the way, until it runs out...and merges with I-95.
Google Maps may show about 15 minutes quicker by jumping on 95 at Ft. Pierce, but after having made this trip many times, I've found the odds of getting backed up on the Turnpike much less...than on 95. Regardless of which route you choose, be ready for a backup due to a wreck/disabled vehicle...either way you go. |

The key here is the OP is driving on a Sunday. Far less traffic on 95 on a Sunday. I've done this several times on Sunday and never had significant slowdowns from Ft Pierce to Miami. Can't promise as your mileage may vary.

We never had to go all the way to Miami from here but if you want to use Hwy 95, the exit at Jupiter is very convenient, the turnpike and I-95 almost merge there.

I agree with blueash . Sunday on I95 is the way to go. Less tolls, less traffic and more lanes to choose from. I travel to S Fl frequently and always try to travel on Sunday at least one way. Switch at Ft Pierce.

I go to Miami on a regular basis to visit family. For me the cheapest, prettiest and safest way is to go down US27 (441), to avoid tolls and the major traffic of both Turnpike and I95. Right now I95 is full of construction spots from Ft. Pierce all the way to Miami.

When we go to Sandals we want a direct flight out of Miami and we do the switch at Ft Pierce.

Doesn't matter what the best route appears to be.
We always travel with real-time traffic information via the Google Maps app. Particularly on I95 where tail-gate-ing at 95 mph is the norm.

Get off at Jupiter
We drive down to Hollywood all the time. We get off on Jupiter exit, it costs a bit more but the traffic on I-95 is always an adventure.
