booked Maine now what??
OK after a massive search I found the only way to get to Maine non stop was to book Sanford airport to Bangor which we just did. Now how far are we from bar harbor? Will have to get working on a itinerary am excited we are going to see coastal Maine for our anniversary! Where should we stay first night or two?

It's about 50 miles to Bar Harbor. I'd just google bar harbor hotels to find a place to stay. Do keep in mind that there are many fine inns in ME so keep a lookout for them also.

We would love to try a B & B as it would be our first time doing so! Just have to figure out our route as we want to be in bar harbor Aug 27 through the 31st so must see other stops first. Love and appreciate the suggestions

Years ago I stayed at the Craignair Inn on Clark island. It's an old boarding house used by workers that cut stone in a nearby quarry.
It's 70 miles southeast of Bangor but most of the drive is along the Maine coast. You will need to retrace the route to get back to Mt. Drive to Bar Harbor and stay there, lots of nice places in and around there. You'll be pretty far up in Maine, but the blueberries and lobsters are wonderful up there too. Lots of little villages around to explore, rugged coastline up there is beautiful.

When we went to Bar Harbor (years ago) from Boston, we stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn and it was wonderful. Now looking at their website it has grown quite a bit. Wonderful location, great package deals off-season. Looks pretty expensive now though. I agree, Portland area is great. More to see and do. Can easily go to Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, etc...plenty of lobstah, craggy coastlines, beaches, boat trips, etc...going up there next week, can't wait!

I can smell the salty sea air from here in Bonnybrook. We'll be heading north to NH soon and I always plan at least one weekend on the coast of Maine. Can't get enough of it. Enjoy yourselves. I'm a big Trip Advisor fan and contributor. You won't go wrong if you read all the review on where you want to stay. Enjoy yourselves.

Looking forward to it. We booked a nice B & B in Bar harbor and now we are looking at a beautiful inn in Boothbay harbor and another b& b in Rockport. Hopefully we can do day trips from these locations and make it to Portland also!
