Default Discount Travel Websites

Has anyone used any those discount travel websites for hotel reservations - like priceline.com and others like it? Can you recommend any ? Do they really save money ? :dontknow: Considering a road trip to Napa CA and SF CA and maybe the LA area.

I have used Priceline a number of times for HOTEL reservations and have been satisfied 90% of the time. There are some caveats ou should be aware of the biggest being know what the competition (pricewise) is in the area you are travelling and 2) know what area you are bidding in for you may get something you do not want.

If you plan to use Priceline for hotel reservations you absolutey need to visit http://www.biddingfortravel.com before you ever go to Priceline. This site will tell you the locations where (State/city) Priceline has hotel vendors...who the vendors are, and you can actually go to a BB and see who has been awarded rooms and at what price.

Check out this site and then if you have any further questions, ask away and i will see if I can answer them.

Caroline....... THANK you for that link! OMG :yikes: there's so much information and I have a very short attention span! I'll try to read it all and understand the bidding process, if I can get through it :

Thanks again!

If you use a discount travel website find out if they charge any extra fees for using there site, what the cancellation policy is and if there are any additional cost to do this, what is your recourse if you encounter any problems - read everything carefully and look for hidden cost.

Thumbs up I use Hotwire

I always use Hotwire.com and save a lot. The one bad experiance I had, they refuned the charge. I tried Hotels .com once and will never again. first hotl was bad and they moved us to another that was just as bad.

I have used priceline.com many times for flights, and have been very pleased. They are definitely the cheapest between hotwire.com, expedia.com and priceline.com. Sometimes it is cheaper to get a package deal. I made an airline reservation for a flight from Detroit to Phoenix, and it was cheaper to get the rental car and flight than just the flight alone. So check out the package deals they have as well. Good luck.
