If you have been looking to take a river cruise on a Deluxe Ship, there is an AMA Waterways River Cruise starting with 3 nights in Paris (4 star hotel), high speed express train to Luxenbourg, board the ship for 7 nights visiting such places as Bernkastel, Koblentz, Rudesheim, Mainz/ Heidelberg. Wertheim, Wurzurg/ Rothenburg (optional) ending in Nuremberg and then transfering to Prague for 2 additional Nights. This is 2 capital cities on each end with the heart of wine country and the center of Germany in the middle. The first week of October is out of the tourist season but still comfortable to travel, and before the end of Day light savings so we can take advantage of day light. AMAWATERWAYS RECEIVES TOP RATING IN INAUGURAL BERLITZ: RIVER CRUISING IN EUROPE TRAVEL GUIDE

Calabasas, CA - (Jun. 16, 2014) - AmaWaterways, the world’s leading river cruise line, has been recognized as the only river cruise company based in the U.S. to receive an overall 4-Star Plus rating – the highest level found in the book – in the first edition of the Berlitz: River Cruising In Europe travel guide. AmaWaterways’ European fleet secured the top eleven spots in the guide’s ranking of more than 280 river cruise ships, underscoring AmaWaterways’ position as an innovative industry pioneer and supplier of unparalleled river cruises.

“AmaWaterways is honored to continually be recognized as the innovator we aim to be – a true leader – in river cruising,” said Kristin Karst, executive vice president and co-owner of AmaWaterways. “This incredible distinction reflects our mission to not only design the most trend-setting ships on the market, but also to offer travelers top-of-the-line luxuries and the most impeccable service while exploring the world’s most desired European waterways.”

River cruising regardless of which provider you take is not cheap, but we have been able to secure good rates that could be better if the group is completed. There is room for 3 couples who want to travel starting early
October 2015 and are adventuresome to try something different. Plently of time to plan ahead but believe it or not, river cruises book up much quicker than ocean cruises for there are only 70-80 cabins on a ship. We are big Ocean cruisers but have never done a river cruise. AS our first go at it , we did not want a 15 day river trip so we decided on 7 nights but we also wanted to revist both Paris and Prague.

If you want a first class experience..better according to Berlitz than Viking or Grand Circle and are interested or know of people who may be, drop me a PM and I will respond with details.

I'd love to try a river cruise. And I do understand that the great river cruises book far out.
But we're not people who like to plan far ahead, we usually decide on a cruise about three months out.
Hmmmm, food for thought. Sounds appealing.

You usually have to book at least a year out, maybe longer, to get the good river cruises. We were booked at the beginning of this year for September next year.

We are Elite Plus Captain CLub members on Celebrity and never book more than 3-4 months out for Ocean cruises. WE found that River Cruising is alot different primarily because of the size of the ships ....many only having 70-80 cabins. If you want to sail a particular date or month a river ship may only do that route twice in a month and just like ocean ships, there are not so good cabins on river ships especially if you get the lower deck with no balconly or elevator access. River cruise incentives are normaly offered early ie there are alot of 2015 incentives for both summer and fall sailings being offered right now on practically all the river ships. Unfortunately the cabins offered 3 months out most likely will not be what you want or expected.

Granted alot of things can happen in 12-14 months until you sail but then that is why you buy insurance!
