Default Cedar Key?

Is Cedar Key worth the 2 hour drive? I'm thinking there and back for the day.

Default Cute Place

We drove there one day for an art festival event. It was a good thing the event was taking place because there is not much to do there. If you are a fan of nostalgia (particularly 1950's), there are several buildings you would enjoy. There are a couple of antique stores, restaurants, boutique shops, old hotels, etc on the main street. There is also a small sandy beach that looked pleasant.

It is, to me, sort of like Tarpon Springs, just enough to do and see to spend an afternoon, but certainly not worth much more than that.

Now, I am sure I have offended someone, so please remember this is just my humble opinion.

If you take the boat ride out to the island you will be surprised at the history there. Yes the ride is worth it,

As said above, worth the trip. Leave here around 9:00 AM, go there and walk around and enjoy the little town, have a nice lunch, take the boat ride to the island and spend a couple hours, come back to town have a snack and a quiet drink over looking the golf and return. Very nice way to spend a day.

Ditto!! A relaxing and calm getaway day. A quiet and peaceful experience. If you are looking for glitz and glamor this is not the place to find it. Nice change from the hubbub of civilization.

Stay overnight at a B&B - like many places, it takes more than one day to appreciate. There is a Fall Seafood Festival in November that will have great food.

(We are currently at the Art Festival staying in our RV and will definitely come back again)(The Lions Club and other local organizations have many food booths in the City Park with great food - we had crab Cakes for $2/ea and I had Clams in the shell (about 30 ea), Sausages, Boiled Potato and Corn on the Cobb for $8).

If you go, you must get some of Tony's clam chowder, New England style. That alone is worth the trip. It's won many awards in national competitions. He's on the left as you come in the main road. Charming little town.

In a previous post, there were some recommendations on where to stay for a few nights in Cedar Key, but I cannot locate it. Suggestions on accommodations are greatly appreciated.

Default Cedar Key Canvas

If you go check out Cedar Key Canvas. They make all kinds of canvas products and will personalize them for you. They have (or had when I was there) a lifetime repair warranty.

I bought a small duffel type bag twenty years ago and have used it almost every trip since. Construction wise still good as the day I bought it.

Back then it was a great laid back one night stop. Sounds like it still is.

I think you'll see everything in one day. It's more like a day trip place to visit. Can't help with the hotels, we stay at campgrounds.

Can't comment on lodgings listed because we stay in our RV. (we like B&B's)

Tony's clam chowder was the highlight of our trip there. Absolutely delicous! Personally, I don't think much is there except the same 'ol, same 'ol gift shops and a beautiful view of the Gulf. We didn't take the trip to the island (didn't know there was one) so maybe that would have made the trip more interesting. However, I would recommend going or you will always be wondering...what if.
