How do you prefer to find wines organized where you shop?

I was recently scooping out the wines at a local grocery. There was no signage in the wine area and it seemed like a haphazard order on the shelves. I inquired and was told the wines were organized by country, then varietal.

When I'm wine shopping, I've never thought "Oh, I'd like a nice Australian", etc. I shop for a particular varietal - a moscato or a riesling, etc. I would therefore prefer the bottles be organized that way.

If you were the wine department poobah, how would you organize it?

(P.S. As you can tell, not a wine connoisseur!)
