Do You Like Cilantro?
We love it ... the more the better. But recently I've talked with some who despise it. One person told me it tastes like soap. I found a couple of interesting articles that talked about differences in our DNA that explain why some dislike it so much. I wouldn't be surprised if that explains other food likes/aversions as well.

I have been fascinated by these studies for years. DNA and resulting brain chemistry control everything from food tastes to political tendencies. It is both interesting and scary to think where this knowledge will lead.

I like cilantro and taste it frequently as I eat a LOT of Mexican food. Although I am mostly German by ancestry I detest sauerkraut. Go figure...

Thank for posting. I always thought it tastes like a nasty chemical and now I understand why most people like it and some do not.

I hate cilantro, but I will tolerate it to be polite. That's the way I was raised.

My DNA report tells me I have slightly lower odds of disliking cilantro, which is cool but I already knew that. Love the stuff. My sister can't stand it.

Either you love it or hate it. It seems like there is no in between due our DNA. I personally LOVE it!

As to BK's question. I like Cilantro but only occasionally. I buy a bunch of fresh Cilantro and use it a couple of times and that's it for a month or two. Wow. A profound issue and a palate issue in one post. This is too much before Coffee. It is a COLD day in The Villages. I have on SOCKS.

Words can't express my distaste for cilantro. Imagine squeezing several drops of Dawn dish soap in your salsa and you can imagine what I taste. Most Mexican restaurants are understanding and won't sprinkle it on top the food if you request, but usually their salsas are pre-prepared with the stuff, and there isn't much they can do for you. At El Ranchito they have a green chili salsa that doesn't seem to have much, if any cilantro in it.

Berry Berry interesting. People that don't like Cilantro probably don't like Sofrito either. It's all good. I Don't like Apple Pie, I'll eat a little to be social.
We put all this kind of stuff on everything, just part of my wives cooking. I was only 98 lbs when I met her and now I'm not. |
