Default Placed vs Thrown Olives

I learned something new today. I was buying a jar of olives at Publix. They had a 7 ounce tall skinny jar of "placed" olives for 7 dollars and a 7 ounce short wide jar of the exact same olives that were labelled as "thrown" olives for 4 dollars. What is the difference? Apparently, the thrown olives are put in the jar by a machine, but the placed olives are put in the jar by a human. Did you know the difference? I will never buy placed olives again.

We buy unpacked olives from deli’s or olive bars, to avoid the tightly packed jars. But if I have to buy jar, always placed, a few dollars isn’t a big deal.

Had no idea olives are so expensive. If we were younger would plant some olive trees

I wouldn't select an olive because it's stacked or "placed" nicely inside a jar.

I like the Mezzetta Colossal Castelvetrano Pitted and their Super Colossal Spanish Queen Olives, Pimiento Stuffed, from Publix or Winn-Dixie. I stock up when there's a BOGO. The Mezzetta Greek Pitted Kalamata olives are available in a large jar at Sam's Club.

I buy mine at the liquor store already soaked in vermouth.

Wonder how far we could throw a handful of olives?

I prefer with pits. More flavor and usually not so mushy.

They are expensive, but cheaper than diamonds.

I never knew there was a difference either. Always a good day when you learn something new.
We love the large, pimento stuffed green olives. Have always meant to buy a jar, drain it and replace the juice with vodka. This might be my project for the afternoon. That will then take care of most of our nights for this week!!

The only difference I see is the name: placed versus thrown. What makes the placed worth more?

Thrown olives are loaded into the jar by machine. Placed olives are arranged in the jar by hand so that the pimentos are all facing the glass. Thems are more purty.
