Suggestion for dinner....
Make one day before serving; chill overnight. SESAME NOODLES 1/4 cup soy sauce 3 tablespoons sesame oil, divided 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar (or rice wine vinegar preferable) 2 tablespoons salad oil 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon prepared chili sauce with garlic 12 oz. box linguini noodles 4 green onions 1 red bell pepper cut into thin strips Combine 2 tablespoons soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar, oil, sugar, and chili sauce in blender. Blend well. Cover. CHILL in refrigerator overnight to allow flavors to blend. Next day: Cook noodles according to package directions. RINSE, drain and cool. In large bowl, toss cooked noodles with 1 tablespoon reserved sesame oil. Stir in green onions and red pepper strips. Toss with enough of the chilled dressing to coat. Serve chilled.....or at room temperature. p.s. Some folks like to add a "touch" of peanut butter to the "sauce" part of the sesame noodles......probably not authentically Asian, but good nevertheless. You can doctor it up any way you wish. ******************************** SESAME PORK RIBS So as not to heat up the kitchen, do this in a slow cooker.......5 to 6 hours on low. Should come out very tender. Slow cooker is great when you do not want to stand out in the heat grilling..... 1 medium onion, sliced 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 cup soy sauce 1/2 cup ketchup 1/4 cup HONEY 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar 3 garlic cloves, minced 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1/2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes 5 pounds country style pork ribs Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish. Place onions in bottom of slow cooker. Combine brown sugar, soy sauce, ketchup, honey, vinegar, garlic, ginger and red pepper flakes in large bowl. Add ribs and turn to coat. Place ribs on top of onions in slow cooker. Pour sauce over meat. Cover. Cook on low.....5 to 6 hours. Place ribs on platter (6 servings) Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve sauce on the side. ******************************* A TOUCH OF ASIA RIBS 8 TO 10 SERVINGS 4 TO 8 HOURS IN SLOW COOKER 6 pounds country style pork ribs, cut into serving size pieces 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce 1/4 cup cornstarch 27 oz. jar DUCK SAUCE 2 tablespoons minced garlic Place ribs in bottom of your slow cooker. In large bowl, stir together teriyaki sauce and cornstarch. Blend in duck sauce and garlic. Pour sauce over ribs, making sure that each layer of ribs is well covered with sauce. Cover slow cooker and cook on low 8 hours or on High 4 to 5 hours.

Thank you for all the dinner suggestions you post. The hardest part about cooking for me is, what to fix. You sure have some good recipes, I've saved them all. Keep them coming.

Also, people think of "slow cookers" as winter gadgets.......but in the heat of summer, such as the high temps and humidity we've had up here for a week now (today is comfortable).........slow cooking is a good option for me. On a "lazy day" I send hubby out for two foot long Subway sandwiches.....they are always fresh; we eat half and then have the other half later............... That "sesame noodles" recipe was given to me by our daughter when she was in college. It was a "staple" for the girls in the dorm......and later when they got their apartment, they still made it. Everyone seems to like it .........and again, once it's made............it's in the frig for a nice side dish.......that's if you like sesame noodles. Mine is better than what you get at a Chinese takeout restaurant......I give all the credit to whomever gave the original recipe to our daughter. p.s. I forgot to mention that an alternate version of the sesame noodles has some peanut butter in it. The kids (grandkids) like it that way........................ |
