I have a 2015 Yamaha golf cart that I would like to see a little more speed out of without excessive engine rpms. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic to install the gears?

Willie Wilcoxon 352-255-1369. Great guy, knows his stuff, fair prices. who knows, it may even be something he can do in your driveway.

Yes and yes. Just upping the governor faster than the dealer set it will usually void a warranty.

Is it worth speeding in a golf cart? If you'r caught you will face the following charges--
1) speeding 2) having an unregistered & uninsured vehicle 3)you will have to certify the required speed limit has been restored cost could be close to $1000.00 |

Thanks for the response. I'll call willie. High speed gears doesn't mean that you have to travel at a high speed. It changes the gear ratio so the cart can run at the same speed but at a lower rpm which is much easier on your engine. Without it is like driving your car on the highway in drive instead of overdrive.

Virtually all Yamaha gas carts sold to Villagers have had a high speed gear installed because the top speed from the factory is about 15 mph.

If you buy a cart with 8" wheels and then change them to 10" or 12" wheels, wouldn't that increase the speed of the cart?

Yep. There is a formula to determine, but I hate math.

I found out by experimenting that the original speed is about 13 mph. By adding 10 inch tires (205 65 10) the speed increases to about 15. By adjusting the govenor compeletly open the speed is 18 to 20 or 22 if you really wind it out over a long flat stretch. If you adjust all the slack from the accelerator cable it will reach 24 easily and sometimes 25. So 8 to 1 gears should get it around 30 mph? You don't have to go that fast just because it will. It's like having a powerful engine in your car. You don't always run it up to it's capabilities but it's nice to have the power if you need it. Kind of a guy thing.

With the governor opened up I assume it is a bit noisy at 20+ mph because of excessive engine rpms? Mine is pretty quiet at 20+ mph with the high speed gear - the engine is loafing along but not being lugged.

I would certainly like it to be quieter. I'm not sure the rpms are excessive because of the limiter in the ecm. It does hum along pretty well and the engine should happier at a lower rpm. I'll be happy if it doesn't lug and is a little quieter as you say yours does.

Good luck with the new gear installation and please report back with your experiences. Thanks so much.
